Don’t Miss a Thing! Start Using Facebook Lists

Facebook is an extremely complex social networking platform that has to continuously decide what content – or “stories” – each and every Facebook user gets to see every time they log in.

Interest Lists are a nifty little feature that we strongly recommend getting on-board with. They let you organise all those Facebook “stories” into categories, so you’re less likely to miss things you want to see.

Instead of being bombarded with one newsfeed, which is heavily filtered by Facebook’s “EdgeRank” algorithm (that’s the presumptuous piece of code that decides what you want to see and what you don’t want to see) you can create sub-feeds (i.e. lists) that contain people, Pages or both.

Want to see posts just from your family members? No problem. Want to see a list of posts made by your favourite anti-scam busting Pages? Piece of cake. You just need to set up a list, give it a name and add who (or what Pages) you want to appear on that list.

The great thing about lists is that they include all the posts/stories made by the people included on those lists, and are not filtered by Facebook’s Edgerank software. This puts the power of what you see on Facebook in your hands, not Facebook’s.

Did you know… it is completely true that Facebook are making it harder for Pages like ours to reach our fans. It is true that posts that garner more interaction (comments, likes etc.) will generally get better visibility, but on average we reach less and less people every month because it is increasingly harder to get our posts to appear on the newsfeeds of our followers. With Interest Lists you can ensure you see our posts if and when you want. Everyone’s a winner!

To set up a list follow these steps –

1. On your newsfeed, locate the INTERESTS section, hover your mouse over it and click MORE. (you may need to click More to see your Interests)

2. At the top of the screen that appears click the “Add Interests” button.

3. At the top of the screen click the “Create List” button.

4. This then brings up a box asking you to select the pages and people you want in your list. Type the person or page and you’ll see the search results appear at the bottom. You can see via the image below we have searched for our own page. Once you have added everyone you want click Next.

5. Next you need to select a name for your list. You can see from the image below that we have created a list of all our favourite scam busting pages so we always know about the latest scams and hoaxes that circulate the Internet. We have added five pages, including our own, Facecrooks,, The BullDog Estate,, Hoax-Slayer and The Privacy and Security Guide. We have called the list Scam Busting. Select if you want the list to be secret, public or for friends and click Done.

That’s it! You will see the list appear on the left hand side menu under “Interests”.

Clicking that link takes you straight to ALL the most recent updates of all the scam busting sites included within it! Now you’ll never miss an update because Facebook didn’t deem it important enough for it to appear on your newsfeed! And remember, you can create as many lists as you like!

Let us know if you use Facebook lists and what you think of them!
