Free Asda/Primark/Tesco voucher spam explodes on Facebook
December sees free voucher spam hit Facebook as bogus messages targeting the likes of Tesco, Asda and Primark explode onto the social networking site.
It isn’t a particularly new scam, but one that often circulates virally across Facebook, via messages claiming to offer free shopping vouchers for those that click the link.
Christmas is often a time exploited by scammers. Free shopping vouchers would provide welcome support to this often expensive time of the year, and that is the reason why these fake giveaway scams prove very popular during the tail-end of the year.
Messages offering free shopping vouchers for the likes of Primark, Asda and Tesco’s (all of which have had numerous, near-identical spam circulate in previous months) have been fooling thousands by sending social networkers to external websites which request the user share the page before proceeding.
Sharing the page passes the scam onto the users friends who see the link posted in their newsfeeds.
And after sharing the page, users are often redirected to spammy affiliate rewards/survey programs that are designed to harvest a user’s personal information, making then a target for unsolicited spam through their email, physical address and even phone.
And after all that trouble, the user then finds out the free shopping voucher didn’t even exist.

It is worth remembering that attempting these sorts of offers is never worth the trouble, even if you’re trying “just in case”. These scams make you the target for spam and it is always worth remembering that sharing these offers also put your friends at risk as well.
Not only that, but you’ll also be making the spammers money, as they get paid every time they lure a user into giving away their personal information.
Be responsible with what information you share to your friends and understand that these free shopping voucher giveaways are never genuine.
