No you won’t win a £75 Waitrose coupon for sharing a Facebook post

Despite what a Facebook post may claim, you won’t win a free £75 Waitrose coupon just for sharing a post across Facebook. This is a fake giveaway scam.

The post claims that the supermarket chain are giving away free coupons to celebrate their 112th anniversary, but this is false. The links are just leading to spammy marketing webpages that are designed to harvest your personal information to target you for spam.

Upon clicking the link (an example can be seen below) users are told to share the link to their timelines which helps the spam spread across Facebook.

For a start, Waitrose are not celebrating their 112th anniversary, and will not offer a promotion via this manner where participants would have to visit a third party website that has nothing to do with the supermarket.

Additionally Waitrose have stated via their Facebook page –

This website/offer is in no way related to Waitrose – please do not complete their survey. We’ve reported it to Action Fraud and are trying to get the website removed. Thank you.

There are no coupons on offer here, and those who spread the link have just fallen for a typical Facebook scam that purport to offer free products in return for completing surveys. However no one actually wins but the spammers. Once visitors click the link and share the link from their timeline as per the instructions, they are bombarded with spammy surveys.

Do not participate in these types of offers. If they are not published by the official social media outlets of the brands mentioned in the alleged offer, then it is unlikely to be a legitimate offer. Those who do fall for these scams can expect to be targeted with spam, or worse find themselves the victim of identity theft.
