Adobe Billing Invoice email scam

Email users should be on the watch out for a popular malware scam that attempts to lure victims into opening a malicious email attachment disguised as an invoice from software company Adobe.

The email (below), claiming to come from the Adobe Billing, thanks the reader for signing up for Adobe Creative Cloud Service and purports that it contains an invoice for a recent purchase made by the recipient.

However the email, which contains a ZIP attachment, is designed to scam readers into opening a malicious file. There is no invoice, instead it’s an application file that installs malware onto a victims computer.

Luring people into installing dangerous attachments is a common modus operandi for cyberspace malware criminals.

The advice here is to never open up attachments on emails unless you know the sender and were expecting the email. Preferably both.

If you fell for this scam or a similar scam, remember to run up-to-date antivirus software on your computer straight away. For our recommendations for 2015 click here.
