Thousands of Facebook users have been worried today after being told by Avast Antivirus that it has blocked two Trojan horses when visiting Facebook.
Facebook users were told when visiting either the Chat or Inbox facilities that Avast had to block two threats from infecting the user’s computer, leading to many believing that Facebook had become infected with malware, or that their computers were infected.
The news gained extra credibility when various sources reported that a genuine virus was recirculating the Internet that targeted bank accounts.
However for those receiving the Avast warning you can relax, as this appears to be nothing more than a false positive (meaning Avast interpreted a legitimate file as a threat) caused by an update gone awry. According to the Avast support forum an update fixing the issue has already been released.
So make sure you update your Avast antivirus software (again) to rid yourself of the warning messages.
