Facebook users should be aware of a spate of spammy links spreading across the website purporting to offer 2 Delta Airlines business class tickets to fly “anywhere in the world”.
The links are leading to spammy websites designed to harvest a user’s personal information making them the target for unsolicited spam and potentially identity fraud.
An example of such a link can be seen below –
Delta Airlines is giving 2 Business Class tickets to fly anywhere in World!
Travel till May to August (2 Tickets) per person!
The links lead to a website that asks you to share a link on your Facebook timeline as well as send the link directly to at least 15 of your Facebook friends before you can “claim” your free tickets.
Upon performing those actions, visitors are then told to complete spammy surveys that are designed to harvest as much personal information as possible, including your phone number, address and email. This information is then sold to marketing companies which in turn targets you for spam communication.

And after all these hoops have been jumped through, there are no free Delta Airline tickets. But by the point the visitor realises this, it is too late. They have already plastered the link on their Facebook profile, spammed their Facebook friends and given their personal information away to spammy third party marketing companies.
These types of scams are common on social media, and it isn’t just Delta Airline tickets used as bait. A variety of prizes can be used as bait, including cars, vacations and gaming consoles.
Remember – don’t click on suspicious links on Facebook and if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. You’re not going to get free airline tickets just for clicking a links and answering questions.
