Did Corona Extra tweet inappropriate posts about coronavirus? Fact Check

Screenshots of tweets allegedly made by the Corona Extra lager Twitter account are spreading under the wake of the coronavirus outbreak.

FALSE

Many social media users have been either amused or offended by a series of “inappropriate” tweets that were allegedly made by the Corona Extra Twitter account in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak that started in China but have since spread to a number of other countries.

An example of such a tweet is below –

Again, you don’t get the coronavirus by drinking our beer! Coronavirus symptoms include fever, runny nose and coughing. Symptoms of drinking Corona include gagging, craving Taco Bell and waking up next to someone you wish you wouldn’t have.

However the tweets were likely intended as jokes, yet because they have prolifically been spread online, it was perhaps inevitable that some social media users have taken them at face value.

Some cocial media users have shared them in the context of an “official statement” from Corona Extra. While many social media users have correctly understood that the tweets are fake and were intended for entertainment, others have expressed both amusement and shock at the tweets, believing them to be genuine posts from the lager brand.

A quick glance at the official @corona Twitter feed where the tweets were allegedly posted from reveal that the brand has not used that Twitter account since 2017, over two years before the outbreak started.
