Did Donald Trump Jr. say “let California burn” – Fact Check

A meme is spreading online that claims Donald Trump Jr., son of President Donald Trump, said to let California burn because the state voted Democrat.

The meme claims Trump Jr. made the quote below during an appearance on the Tucker Carlson Show Tonight during November 2018.

Let California burn. It’s what they voted for. Notice no fires in red states.

The quote is fake. As far as we can determine, Trump Jr. never said those words. Not on the Tucker Carlson Show Tonight or elsewhere. The meme was first posted on the Facebook page Stop the World, the Delporables Want Off. That page describes itself as a page that publishes parody posts in its About section –

This is a mixture of political memes & messages. We make a lot of parody posts & those are NOT meant to be taken seriously. Check for “quotations marks”.

We can only assume that this was intended to be one such “parody” post, though it could more accurately be described as just nonsense.

To knock the final nail in the coffin, Trump Jr. didn’t appear on the Tucker Carlson show on the given date he allegedly make the quote.
