Did Elise Stefanik give TV cameras the finger? Fact Check

A photo purports to show congresswomen Elise Stefanik giving a TV camera the “finger” after open hearing testimony from Marie Yovanovitch during the Trump impeachment hearings.

FALSE

An image spreading online claims to show congresswomen Stefanik giving the “finger” to TV cameras as she walked past at the end of the Yovanovitch open hearing. However the image has been digitally altered since we, and others, were able to find the real footage showing the moment depicted in the doctored image.

A still showing the same moment (almost) as the doctored image is below and shows that Stefanik was not making any offensive gesture at that time. It is also apparent that Stefanik was not wearing any nail polish during the open hearings either by looking at other images or footage of the hearings, which further disproves the above image where she is depicted as wearing a purple hued nail varnish.

As such, the photo is fake and we do not recommend circulating it.
