Did Nancy Pelosi’s impeachment pens cost $15,000? Fact Check

Rumours online claim that the pens belonging to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi that were used to sign the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump cost $15,000.

FALSE

Many other variants of this claim exist, including the claim that the pens cost a total of $480,000, or that they cost $450,000. Other variants claim the pens cost $2,025 each or $15,000 each. The majority of the claims assert the excessive costs were paid by the American taxpayer.

Pelosi uses $15,000.00 worth of bullet pens to impeach the president. President Trump uses $1.99 Sharpie to sign $2 billion trade deal with China. That’s the difference in a business man and a worthless professional politician

So your vanity impeachment signing pens cost the taxpayers $2025 each. Please explain to me how that expenditure benefits the citizens of this country.

America Nancy Pelosi said Gold Plated Trump Impeachment Pens Just Cost $48,000 00

Despite the many claims that the pens cost an extortionate amount of money, there is simply nothing to backup that claim, and all of the many assertions we have seen so far simply state their accusations as fact without providing any substance to back up those claims.

The lack of any reputable source is demonstrated by the fact that a number of unverified claims have appeared on social media making a wide array of apparent costs attributed to the pens ranging from $2,025 to $480,000.

It is true that Nancy Pelosi signed the Articles of Impeachment with many different pens, and many of those pens were handed out as souvenirs, which is a custom when signing documents that are likely to go down in the history books (in this case, it was only the third articles of impeachment to be signed against a sitting US president. Back in 1998, Republican senators also kept pens as souvenirs after signing oaths for the impeachment trial of President Bill Clinton.)

The pens were black and gold in color, with Nancy Pelosi’s signature inscribed on the side of them. (Again this is a common practice – even President Trump signs documents with a custom Sharpie pen with his own scribe adorned on the side.)

Despite many claims, there is nothing to suggest the pens were made with real gold. In fact, Pelosi’s deputy chief of staff is reported to have said that each pen cost just under $15 each.
