A claim spreading online asserts that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi diverted $2.4 billion from Social Security to cover the cost of the impeachment process against President Donald Trump.
This claim is false. The rumours appear to have originated from an article that labelled itself satire that was authored the website Potatriots Unite, that had the headline “ Pelosi Diverts $2.4 Billion From Social Security To Cover Impeachment Costs”
In that article, Pelosi was claimed to have taken money from the Department of Social Security to cover the costs of impeaching President Trump. However, even a cursory read of the entire article – which references Pelosi’s “Liquor Boy” and “constant deliveries of Chardonnay”, it becomes clear that the article is not intended to be taken seriously.

The Potatriots United website is part of the “America’s Last Line of Defense” network of spoof news, which frequently target conservative readers across the United States. The About Us page of the website reads –
PotatriotsUnite.com is a subsidiary of the “America’s Last Line of Defense” network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery…
However, when such articles on these spoof news websites become popular, the overriding assertions outlined in the spoof articles spread out of context, and are separated from the spoof articles where they originated.
This is what appears to have happened in this case as many social media posts – without referencing the original article – claim that Pelosi used money intended for Social Security to cover impeachment costs, when that is simply untrue.
The claim originated from a spoof website, and none of the claims are true.
