Did transgender senator Larry Cox-Sandhu swear in on Satanic Bible? Fact Check

A meme spreading on social media claims to show the moment a transgender senator called Larry Cox-Sandhu is sworn into the Senate. The meme claims that Sandhu was sworn in using a copy of the Satanic Bible.

See a copy of the meme below.

DEMOCRAT TRANS SENATOR LARRY COX-SANDHU
SWORE IN WITH HIS LEFT HAND IN THE AIR AND HID RIGHT ON THE SATANIC BIBLE JUST TO MAKE MIKE PENCE UNCOMFORTABLE AS A CHRISTIAN
THE CEREMONY WAS A BIT LONG AND WORDY AND THE SMALL PRINT MIGHT NOT WORK OUT BUT IT’LL PROBABLY GET A BAZILLION SHARES.

The meme is fake, and all the information within it is inaccurate. The meme was originally posted by a spoof Facebook page called America’s Last Line of Defense.

That spoof Facebook page is part of a network of other pages and a number of websites dedicated to providing spoof news that is frequently mistaken for genuine news. The pages and websites are operated by a hoaxer known as Christopher Blair, who frequently writes under various pseudonyms including Busta Troll.

As for the meme itself, there is no such transgender senator called Larry Cox-Sandhu. The image shows Democratic Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema. Sinema is not transgender, though she is one of the first LGBTQ women to be elected to the Senate as an identified bisexual.

Additionally, despite the poor “photoshop” work in the meme, she did not swear in to a copy of the Satanic Bible. She is one of the only senators to swear in using a copy of the US Constitution. While rejecting the label atheist, Kyrsten Sinema describes herself as religiously unaffiliated.

More images of Kyrsten Sinema taking the oath can be seen here.

As such, the entire meme is designed to either entertain or anger users depending on their susceptibility to bogus news.

The Facebook page America’s Last Line of Defense has a long history of “baiting” those who identify as politically conservative since many of its posts and memes are designed to attack the Democratic party and liberal values.
