Fact Check

Did Trump offer Judge Cannon position on Supreme court in Truth Post? Fact Check

A screenshot of a Donald trump “truth” on Truth Social is spreading across social media that appears to show the former president offering Judge Cannon a position on the Supreme Court when he becomes president.

FALSE

Judge Cannon is the judge presiding over one of the Donald Trump’s criminal indictments, specifically the “classified documents” case bought by Special Council Jack Smith in the state of Florida.

Amid speculation that Judge Cannon was considering postponing the trial date until after the 2024 presidential election, the following screenshot began circulating the Internet.

Judge Cannon, a great patriot and fine judge, made an excellent decision in our case against CORRUPT AND LOONEY JACK SMITH and his dirty tactics. Not since KING DAVID has a Judge adjudicated a more Wise Decision! When I win (AGAIN – I NEVER LOST) I will make Judge Cannon a SUPREME COURT JUSTICE as soon as a vacancy is made. I will remake the SUPREME COURT so that these WITCH HUNTS by CORRUPT MEN will never happen again in our Great Country! MAGA!

While the “truth” may appear to be from Trump upon a cursory glance – equipped with random capitalized words and the claim he won the 2020 presidential election – no such post appears on Donald Trump’s Truth Social timeline.

Another tell-tale sign is that only a single version of the screenshot of the “truth” is circulating, showing he made it “41” seconds from when the screenshot was made. If such a “truth” was genuine, it would certainly be controversial, and as such is would inevitably garner many different screenshots from different devices showing different timestamps, display modes etc.

Creating fake screenshots of social media posts is exceptionally easy with a number of online tools allowing almost anyone to do it. Given that only a single screenshot is spreading and there is no record of the truth on Trump’s timeline, it is extremely likely that this post is fake.
