Did Washington DC get 3.8 million votes despite population of 680K? Fact Check

Did Washington DC, despite only having a population of 680K somehow manage to accrue 3.8 million votes, as such proving Donald Trump’s accusations of electoral fraud?

FALSE | PRANK

Despite the claims of some viral social media posts, that’s not true.

WASHINGTON HAS A POPULATION OF 680k PEOPLE BUT SOMEHOW HAS 3.8M VOTES!?!? WHAT IS GOING ON IN OUR COUNTRY!?!

It is not true that Washington DC received many more votes than its population. It is clear from the images above that the Twitter user “mistook” Washington DC (population of 684,000) with Washington state (population of 7.615 million.)

Whether that was a genuine mistake by a Twitter user, however, is unlikely. The tweet is being shared by a user under the handle Jebediah Grant MAGA. This appears to be a prank account designed to parody pro-Trump Twitter accounts.

It has previously “mistaken” Georgia state for Georgia the country, “mistaken” Philadelphia state with a city of the same name in Mississippi, persistently promoted the narrative that “real Americans don’t wear masks” and claimed that Trump would have stopped Chernobyl.

The account has also admitted that it has been “baiting” Americans.

As such, no, Washington DC did not receive far more votes than its population, and the accounts posting this claim are parody accounts trying to trick Twitter users.
