Director of Facebook Carlos claims Facebook are charging? Hoax
A message is spreading across Facebook that claims the site will “cost money” unless you forward a message to 18 of your contacts, in which case you “icon will turn blue” and Facebook will remain free.
The message is a hoax, and an old, grammatically-lacking one at that. We won’t go into much detail on this post since similar, previous incarnations of the same hoax have already been covered a number of times on this site.

When considering whether a message like this should be taken seriously, it is perhaps prudent to take both spelling and grammar into account. It is unlikely – nigh improbable – that any communication from Facebook would be riddled with such glaringly obvious grammar mistakes. So glaring are such errors, the message above is rendered almost illegible. Yet despite such mistakes, Facebook users are bizarrely turning up in their thousands to copy and paste the garbled mess onto their timelines.
To boot, as we have said numerous times our site, Facebook is free. It always will be. It says it right on the homepage when you go to login.
It is also worth noting that as we write this, there are currently 8 members on Facebook’s director board, and none are called Carlos.
We discuss previous versions of this long running hoax in our post here. We suggest giving it a read if this is your first experience with the persistent “Facebook is charging” genre of hoaxes.
