Does photo show Johnson and Sturgeon sitting in front of Union Jack flags? Fact Check

A photo claims to depict UK prime minister Boris Johnson and Scottish National Party leader Nicola Sturgeon sitting in front of a pair of Union Jack flags.

FALSE

Spreading primarily on Twitter, one such caption attributed to the photo claims that soon after the photo was taken, Sturgeon – who was an avid supporter of Scottish independence from the UK – had a “hissy fit” and demanded the flags be removed.

Apparently, seconds after this first image was taken, the poison dwarf

had a hissy fit, and demanded that the flags were removed… Oh. Too late
Do share…that’ll piss her off

The image isn’t real and was most likely originally uploaded as a joke, though many have since taken it at face value.

The image actually shows the first meeting between Johnson and Sturgeon since the former became elected Prime Minister, and was taken on July 29th 2019. The original image can be seen below.

The two flags have been digitally added into the background. In fact the two flags are one and the same, since the creator has just flipped one photo of the flag across the vertical axis so it faces in the opposite direction.
