Does Truth Social charge $4.99 per week? Fact Check

Claims that Trump-launched social media app Truth Social is charging $4.99 per week are spreading on social media.

FALSE

A number of claims on social media claim that Truth Social – the new social media app launched by Trump to combat what he claims is “conservative censorship” by mainstream social media platforms – is charging its users $4.99 per week, despite many users not yet able to use the platform.

An example of the claim on social media is below.

While it is true that many are still queuing to use the app (the app is at the time of this article only available to American users on Apple devices) it is not true that the app has a weekly charge.

According to the Apple Store page, the app is free to use and many who have downloaded the app have confirmed that is does not charge users.

Many social networking apps claiming to promote free speech have launched over the last handful of years, and many have chosen to use President Trump in their branding. This in turn as led to plenty of confusion since many users have downloaded different apps under the belief they are downloading Truth Social.

It is this confusion that may have led to this rumor since one of those apps is called 2nd1st. This particular app does have a $4.99 weekly charge and many have posted screenshots of this app, not Truth Social, to back-up their claims the Truth Social is charging users.

As such we rank the claim that Truth Social has a $4.99 charge as false.
