A video claims to show the King of Bahrain in Dubai with a new robot bodyguard closely following him.

The video doesn’t show the King of Bahrain, nor does it show a robot bodyguard.

The “robot” in the video is called Titan, and was created by British company Cyberstein Robots. Despite frequently given the descriptive term “robot”, it is actually controlled by a human operator who is situated within, and as such, many claim that Titan is more of a costume than it is a robot. However Titan is partially mechanised, since the operator can control upper shoulder and head movements from a control panel located in Titan’s chest.

Titan is essentially a robot-for-hire, and is frequently booked for public events. Titan is often hired for trade conventions in Dubai, which is where the above video was taken. Specifically, at the IDEX security exhibition in Dubai in 2019.

As such, no this is not a robot bodyguard, and no it is not seem protecting the King of Bahrain. It’s a robotic costume that can be hired for public events.
