Don’t type XBLACK64GBX into Google and click the link, it’s a scam

Messages claim that typing in “XBLACK64GBX” into Google will lead to a website that lets you win a free Samsung S9 smartphone.

An example of the message can be seen below –

Hi Everyone! ✌ A few days ago there was an advertisement on TV where you could win a Samsung S9 just for 3$ if you will answer 4 questions correctly!🔥🔥🔥
It turned out that all you need to do is simply enter the code “XBLACK64GBX” in Google and click on the first link in the results, read this article to learn more. It’s very easy!😍 Yesterday, a courier brought me a package which contained the new Samsung S9! Better hurry up, as the promotion ends tommorow!

The messages are scams, and probably were not posted intentionally by the people spreading the message. We’ve previously discussed a number of “type this code into Google” themed scams, which lure visitors to spammy websites that may try and do several things when you click on them through Google, including

– Trying to lure you into subscribing to spammy subscriptions
– Trying to lure you into installing rogue Facebook apps or malware, which can result in the above message being posted automatically from your account
– Trying to lure you into marketing data harvesting scams that collect your contact information and spam you

In this instance, scammers were attempting to send victims to a scammy website called newzeland24.info, which directs visitors to any number of suspicious websites.

Needless to say, there is no free Samsung S9 on offer simply for clicking a link, and following the instructions in the message above is only going to make you vulnerable to online scams.

If your account is posting such content, stop it by –

– Changing your account password
– Removing authorised logins from your security settings
– Remove any Facebook apps you don’t recognise
– Perform a full anti-virus scan on your device
