Rumours that images of the Australian flag are being banned from Facebook are spreading across the social networking site.
The rumours often implore users to share the image in a bid to protest against the apparent ban.
However the messages are utter nonsense. Posting images of your national flag are not against Facebook’s terms of service and do no violate any rules imposed on the site, nor has it ever been in the past.
Rumours protesting against phantom bans are a common theme on Facebook. Every December fake messages claiming Facebook are banning images of the Christian nativity scene circulate virally, despite no ban ever existing.

Rumours that Facebook are banning pro-Obama posts, anti-Obama posts, images featuring the memorial poppy, images featuring England football shirts and groups that support gun rights are only a few examples of fake bans that have erroneously floating across Facebook, despite containing no truth whatsoever.
Facebook are not banning Australian flag images from the site, thus rumours to the contrary should not be circulated.
