Watch out for spammy Rihanna links on Facebook

Facebook users to be on the lookout for spammy links claiming to show pop-star Rihanna in compromising situations, since such links lead to a variety of malicious websites.

Such links may appear to have been posted by a friend. However Facebook users themselves have not posted such content. Rather, their Facebook accounts have become compromised.

If you click such links, you may be told to download a “plugin” or “codec” to watch the video. However this is merely a social engineering trick designed to lure victims into installing harmful software onto their computers or phones. Those who do download and install the software will infect their device, and malware will most likely result in that user posting the same link on social media to all of their friends.

As usual, be sceptical of suspicious links on social media that claim to show such “celebrity scandal” themed content. It’s not what it seems.

Remember, always keep your device free from malware and run regular antivirus scans using your security software.
