Taking the “unsealed giveaway” hoax (that continually runs rampant on Facebook daily) to another level comes this message that claims to be giving away 200 AK-47 guns..
The message (below) asserts that because the AK-47 guns have been “unsealed” that they cannot be sold and thus are being given away. This is more than likely a joke aimed at the bombardment of scams claiming to be giving away free electronics because they have been unsealed.
Of course this message is entirely false. There are no free AK-47’s on offer here, and sharing the message and liking the page means that not only are you sharing a potentially malicious scam to your friends (we’re sure they’ll appreciate that) but you are also joining a Facebook page that now has the ability to post possible scams to your newsfeed, as well as trick you into giving up personal information with survey scams or worse even downloading malware onto your computer.
Despite this message being a thoroughly unoriginal and arguably more blatant example when compared to its slew of predecessors, thousands of Facebook users have still flocked to the page, commenting “Done” after blindly following the potentially dangerous instructions outlined in the post.
The Page that posted the message above, simply named “Ak – 47” is a page created only weeks prior to the date of this article, and has already accrued over 45 thousand fans by posting a series of fake giveaway posts.
This is known as like-farming, and the page is likely to be used in the future to initiate any number of cons, scams or hoaxes aimed at the people who follow the page.
