Fake Facebook page offers weekend for two at Shard London

A Facebook post claiming you can win a weekend away for two people at The Shard in London for sharing it is spreading across the social network.

The post claims you must share it before “10PM today”. You can see an example below –

We have decided to give a weekend away for two at The Shard in London to someone who shares by 10pm TODAY

Another similar post from the same spammers also claims to come from Centre Parcs –

We have decided to reward someone with a Center Parcs Longleat holiday for 4 to someone who shares this by 10pm today

Another claims to be from First Holidays…

Today at 10pm we have decided someone who has shared will get a Majorca holiday for 4 on us

This is a like-farming post that is designed to lure Facebook users to spammy marketing websites. The page that made the post, London The Shard has also commented on the post with links along with claims that users must click those links to “submit their email”.

However it is these links that will lead to spammy marketing websites that are designed to take your contact information so they can bombard you with marketing calls, SMS, email and postal mail.

The Facebook page that made the post is not the official page belonging to The Shard in London, or the on-site hotel Shangri-La Hotel, both of which have official Facebook pages on the social network. As such, the “weekend for two” that is apparently on offer is actually a prize that doesn’t exist.

The spammers behind this fake page are only interested in luring visitors to spammy websites which will harvest the personal details of those that visit, and in worse case scenarios can even lead to inadvertently entering expensive SMS subscriptions.

Don’t enter competitions or promotions like this unless you know they were posted by the official, legitimate Facebook page belonging to the brand or company in question. In this case, it was not.
