Flooded Missouri highway shark attack JOKE

Whilst we’re not in the habit of debunking what are – for most – clearly jokes, it does seem a certain number of people have taken the below image quite seriously.

The photo is spreading across Facebook and appears to show two men in floodwater about to be tackled by a shark.

The post can be seen below.

CNN – This flooded Missouri highway was the scene of a horrific shark attack. Just another reason to not drive through roads that are under water. The names of these folks have not been released , however, they were the recent recipients of 4.5 million dollars from Mark Zuckerberg.

Of course the majority of people could easily determine that the water is only a few feet high at most, which isn’t deep enough for a shark that size to be able to swim through. Also you can see a larger photo below to show that the entire road hasn’t even been flooded, thus rendering it almost impossible for a shark to get to that position.

So yes, the photo was digitally manipulated.
And if that wasn’t enough, despite the claim in the message that the photo was taken in landlocked US state Missouri, the road signs and car registration plates show the photo was actually taken in the UK, where you would certainly not find a shark that size!

And finally another clear signal the entire thing was meant as a joke, the message identifies the two men as “recent recipients of 4.5 million dollars from Mark Zuckerberg” which is a clear nod to an earlier hoax about Zuckerberg giving out millions of dollars to Facebook users who copied and shared a Facebook post.

It’s a joke, so we can all stop asking now.
