Get Facebook Black Hoaxes

Posts and images are circulating Facebook that claim that they will provide a way of allowing Facebook users to change their Facebook timeline to the colour black.

An example of the images circulating Facebook that help to propogate this scam

The lure of using features such as changing the colour of your Facebook timeline has proved to be a popular bait to lure unsuspecting victims into a variety of different scams.

In this case these images are circulating along with either links to survey scams or links to websites that request you install browser plugins that cause a Facebook account to start spamming the same image and links to all the contacts associated with that account.

Survey scams are designed to harvest a user’s personal information making them vulnerable to more spam and even to expensive subscription plans such as SMS subscription plans. Victims are directed to such scams that ask you to complete a survey before proceeding. Upon completing a survey a victim is then forwarded to another rewards scheme or asked to install a browser plugin as the scam continues.

Browser plugins can act like malware in that they cause a computer and the accounts used on a computer to perform undesired actions such as, in this case, spamming Facebook with links. If you have installed a browser plugin that is spamming from your Facebook account then click here for instructions on how to uninstall them.

Remember, links and images that circulate Facebook claiming you can change the colour of Facebook are always going to be scams. Whilst there are legitimate extensions that can alter the way your computer displays a Facebook Page (but only your computer) these are not going to be spread via spam posts on Facebook.

Remember to be careful what you click on.
