Fact Check

Image shows body of Kim Jong Un as he lies in state? Fact Check

Amid rumours of the death Kim Jong Un, an image purportedly showing the body of the North Korea leader is spreading on social media.

FALSE

The image can be seen below.

However the image is fake, and dates back from 2017.

Many images claiming to show the body of Kim Jong Un are poor quality, and this may be to disguise the fact that the original fake image – tweeted here from 2017 – is actually a rather poor quality “photoshop” manipulation.

In fact the image was directly lifted from an image showing Kim Jong Un’s father, Kim Jong-Il, as he lay in state. See below.

The images of the flowers and markings in the background are identical, as are subtle creases in the red blanket draped across the body. It seems someone has crudely added the body of the younger Kim on top. And again, this happened in 2017.

The image is fake.
