Image shows Mr. Peebles, world’s smallest cat? Fact Check
An image purports to show the “world’s smallest cat”, Mr. Peebles, which measures in at 6.1 inches high and 19.2 inches long. The image shows a tiny cat on someone’s hand.
The image is fake, and clearly doesn’t show a cat that is 19.2 inches long. If the image was real, the cat would have only be around 2 inches long. You can see an example of the image above.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the smallest cat to ever have lived was called Tinker Toy, who measured 7.5 inches long and 2.75 inches tall (so smaller than the measurements described in the image above yet larger than the cat depicted in the image.)
In reality the image was entered as part of a “Sickening Cute” Photoshop content on DesignCrowd.com (then called Worth1000.com.) You can see the content details and the winning entry – the “world smallest cat” – here.
As such, no, the world’s smallest cat isn’t called Mr. Peebles and the image doesn’t show the world’s smallest cat, rather a digitally created piece of art.
