Is Colin Kaepernick face of Ford USA “Build FORD Tough” campaign? Fact Check

Rumours online claim that NFL player Colin Kaepernick is the face of a new ad campaign for Ford USA’s ‘Build FORD Tough‘.

The image below along with the headline “Ford USA Follow Nike’s Example with Surprise Kaepernick Endorsement – FOX News” began spreading via social media.

However the rumours are false and the image has been digitally edited. The image appears to have first appeared on the Political Humor section of Reddit, where the image was posted by the user fakenewsanchorman.

In the comments section, the user noted that he drew his inspiration from a tweet by the user @Patterico who said he’d pay $10 for Ford to put Kaepernick in a commercial for F-150’s so he can watch others “torch their pickups”.

Colin Kaepernick is an NFL football player who has attracted lots of criticism recently over his decision to kneel during the playing of the US national anthem before games in a protest against police brutality against African-Americans.

As a result, he has been a magnet for purveyors of spoof news. Only a few days from this article, a fake story claimed he had been arrested for running onto a football pitch during a San Francisco game.

That story was fake, and so is the claim he has been selected to be the face of the Ford USA ad campaign. In 2017, Ford did, however, make a statement regarding the NFL kneeling controversy, one that was deemed to be on the side of the football players.
