An image claims that American donut and coffeehouse Dunkin’ Donuts is offering free hot or iced coffees to teachers.
The image contains the following caption –
TEACHER APPRECIATION. Every Monday in September Teachers start their week with a Free medium hot or iced coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts! Just show your school ID!
The image is both misleading and out-dated.
The out-dated aspect to the image is that it referred to a promotion that was held back in September 2014, where teachers could get a free coffee every Monday during that month. However the “2014” part has been left off the above image, which explains why it has spread in August every subsequent year.
The misleading aspect is that the promotion for teachers was only ever available in one single store in Illinois. It was not a state-wide or national promotion, though it does appear in 2014 there was some confusion that resulted in many customers going to other Dunkin’ Donuts locations believing the offer was valid there as well. It wasn’t. Dunkin’ Donuts at the time had to confirm the promotion was only available in a single store.
While the popular coffeehouse does regularly hold various types of promotions across their stores, and individual stores regularly hold their own promotions, there has never been any nationwide promotion for free drinks for teachers on Mondays.
