Is Facebook removing image of British troops? Fact Check

Claims that Facebook is removing an image of British troops is spreading across the social media platform.

One of the most popular examples of the rumour is the post below that was uploaded in April 2015 and has since accumulated over 450,000 shares at the time of writing.

Despite the claim, Facebook is not trying to remove the photo. The fact that the most popular instance of this photo was uploaded in 2015 and still remains active on the site should be enough of an indicator that the photo isn’t being removed.

Facebook like-farmers and spammers often use the claim that Facebook is removing a photo in order to trick users into sharing and liking it, making it go viral across the website. It’s also a tactic used by those engaging in fake propaganda. We discuss more examples here.

The photo above is a famous print that shows British marines during the Falklands War in 1982.
