Is the drinking age being raised to 23? Online prank goes viral

A prank site has got plenty of young Americans worried after it started a rumour that the legal drinking age in the United States is to be raised to 23 years, from the current 21 years.

Prank websites like FakeAWish and a number of “You Got Punked” websites have been fooling Internet users for a number of years now, by generating click-baity links with outlandish headlines that turn into announcements that you have been “trolled” upon clicking them.

Despite admitting the stories are just pranks, they still manage to fool plenty of people who just glance at the headlines without clicking the links, or just don’t stay on the site long enough to get the joke.

And another prank site, URLOnline.News has certainly had a number of people flummoxed this week after starting the rumour that the drinking age in the United States is going to be raised to 23 on February 2016. Another prank on that same site also claims the legal drinking age in Canada will be raised to 21 from the same date.

But worry not young people, the rumours are not true. If you actually click the links being spread across social media that assert this, you’ll soon be taken to a webpage that in only a few seconds admits the story is nothing but a prank, as you can see from the screenshot below.
