LA Restaurant given permission to sell dog meat?

A rumour is spreading that an LA restaurant has been given permission to both consume and sell dog meat to customers.

The rumours link back to an article on NewsNerd that claims the Pugan de Manila Eatery and Fine Dining restaurant was given permission to sell dog meat as its ban was in violation of their religious rights. An excerpt from the article says…

Pugan de Manila Eatery and Fine Dining has been granted provisional permission to sell and consume dog meat, while the Supreme Court decides if their case has merit. The restaurant is allowed to slaughter up to 3 dogs per day, with the stipulation that they must be put down humanely. The World Animal Protection agency called the decision “shocking,” and vowed to fight tooth and nail to ensure this act is not allowed to continue.

The article is untrue. California state ban the consumption of pet animals. There is no restaurant called the Pugan de Manila Eatery and Fine Dining in LA (though there is a similarly spelled Pugon de Manila restaurant in Texas) and the article originates from one of a growing number of fake news fauxtire websites that spread nonsense into the online stratosphere under the guise of satire. NewsNerd claims in a disclaimer that is posts articles “purely for entertainment purposes.”

The image accompanying the article that shows dogs hanging in a market stall was actually taken in China and has nothing to do with dog meat in the United States.

Remember to verify the information you spread across the Internet. There are a growing number of fake news fauxtire websites aimed at fooling users with nonsense to acquire Internet traffic.
