Have New Yorkers revolted after “machine error” changed votes to De Blasio? Fact Check

Rumours are spreading that US voters have revolted after a machine error changed their vote in the US 2017 elections in New York to Democratic choice Bill de Blasio, who won re-election.

The rumours are linking back to an article published on ReaganWasRight.com that claims voters who opted to choose Republican candidate Nicole Malliotakis saw their votes automatically changed to the Democrat candidate and incumbent, Bill de Blasio, in what the article calls an apparent “machine error”.

The article reads in part –

BREAKING: New Yorkers Revolt after ‘Machine Error’ Changes Their Vote To DeBlasio
It’s official: Democrat hero Bill de Blasio has been “re-elected” as mayor of New York City. And as with all other Democrat victories, it’s looking like the Mayor cheated.
At 5:47 P.M. Eastern, Fox News projected New York state Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis as the clear winner with a 19-point lead. But when the polls closed, de Blasio had cruised ahead to 65% compared to Malliotakis’ 29.1%.
This was shocking to many, but to none as much as New Yorkers who voted for Malliotakis only to see de Blasio’s name on the printout.
“I don’t know what happened. I voted for Nicole, but this thing says I voted for Bill,” New York City resident Trebianca Jenkins told the New York Times.

Despite the claims made in the article, it is completely false. The article claims that 17% of Republicans claimed their vote had been switched and points to TheBlaze as the source, despite TheBlaze making no such claim.

In reality, ReaganWasRight.com is actually a newly created fake news website, created on August 15th 2017, that belongs to the notorious Christopher Blair-owned network of fake news websites that have been deceiving gullible readers for well over a year now. Blair-owned fake news websites are easily recognised by the “funny” disclaimer in the footer at the bottom of each article that all but “out” the article as satirical in nature.

In the case of the ReaganWasRight.com website, that disclaimer reads –

Our mission is to provide a safe haven from reality for those who truly just don’t know the difference. There is zero truth to anything on this site.

Other fake news websites in the same network include OurLandOfTheFree.com, FreedumJunkshun.com, AsAmericanAsApplePie.org and TheLastLineOfDefense.org (or .online)

What did the article did get right, however, was that de Blasio really did win with a 65% victory.

Given that this story comes from such a site and there is literally zero sources offered and that no media are picking up on the story (even Republican leaning media) then we can safely dismiss this story as bona fide fake news.
