No, Safeway isn’t giving $75 coupons away for anniversary

Facebook links are spreading virally across the social networking site purporting to be giving away free $75 coupons for the shops 50th anniversary for those that click the link.

Upon clicking the link, users are taken to a website that implores readers to share the link onto their timelines to stand a chance of winning. It also claims that the user needs to complete surveys to get their coupon.

This is one of a number of different scams spreading on Facebook that claim to be offering free gift coupons, and they’re scams. These links are designed to lure victims to marketing webpages that will harvest your personal information and contact information and them bombard you with spam emails and unsolicited marketing calls.

The assertion that a brand is giving away free coupons to celebrate an anniversary is a long running type of scam that have been spreading across Facebook for a number of years now.

Forcing Facebook users to share a page to their own timeline helps the scam spread between Facebook friends. These coupons don’t exist.

Don’t fall for these scams. You’re not going to win a free coupon just for sharing a post on your timeline. We recommend avoiding spreading these types of posts. You are exposing both yourself and your friends to spam and potentially much more serious scams.
