Nolan Daniels, the handle of a popular Internet hoaxer, is at it again, this time fooling Facebook users into thinking they have the chance to win a cool “mil”!
Many people will be familiar with Nolan Daniels after he fooled people into thinking he had won the US Powerball lottery and asserting he would share his jackpot with some lucky people who shared a photo of him and the “lucky ticket” with their friends on Facebook.
Of course it was all a hoax. Daniels had not won the lottery and the ticket he was holding was merely a Photoshopped image. But that didn’t stop nearly 2 million people sharing his photo, and probably countless more uploading new instances of the photo.
His online pranks have given his Facebook profile quite the following with – at the time of writing – over 13 thousand people who subscribe to his public posts. And he’s up to his old tricks again – kind of – with this latest photo.
In this photo he is holding a note with 1MIL printed on it and swears – on the life of his son – that one lucky person who shares the photo will receive a cool mil.
But the sceptics and more sensible people who came across the photo asked one vital and pertinent question – a “mil” of what?
Quick research shows that the note in the picture is 1MIL Costa Rican Colones. 1MIL doesn’t mean 1 million, rather it is Costa Rican (i.e. Spanish) for 1 thousand. And 1 thousand Colones which when exchanged into US Dollars, according to Google Exchange, adds up to a non-so impressive $1.99.
So in this case Nolan Daniels is telling the truth. Sort of. Though giving someone 1 MIL Colones isn’t going to break the bank, but then again asking people to share a photo for the slim chance of winning a couple of bucks probably wouldn’t have accumulated tens of thousands of shares and counting.
Good one Nolan.
Best advice? Ignore him.
