Was a pedophile killed by vigilantes in Houston? Fact Check

A story claims that a pedophile called Anik Mustafi who was let off on a legal technicality was killed by vigilantes in Houston, Texas who tied his body to train tracks.

The story was published on the website YourNewsWire.com and claims Mustafi was charged with molesting a 6 year old but was released because of a “flawed legal system”.

The story reads in part –

A notorious Texas pedophile, who was charged with raping a 6-year-old girl and then acquitted on a technicality, has been killed by a vigilante group who tied his body to train tracks.
Anik Mustafi, 34, from Houston, Texas, was discovered in the early hours of Saturday morning, his body cut in half by a freight train.
The train driver alerted the authorities that he had run over the body, explaining that the body was located “just around a bend” and although he received an automated alert that something may be on the tracks, he “had no time to stop the train.”

The story is attached to a photo apparently showing Mustafi’s body.

However the story appears to be an online hoax. There are no records of an Anik Mustafi being arrested for sex crimes nor has there been any reports about his subsequent murder.

The photo of the body was actually taken from a much older video that showed the aftermath of a suicide that occurred in India.

The site that published the story – YourNewsWire.com – is a notorious fake news site that cannot be relied upon to publish genuine news. As such there is no reason to believe this story is genuine.
