Qantas Air Gift Bag with 800 first class tickets? SCAM

Facebook users are being lured into sharing links purporting to offer Qantas Air gift bags with 800 first class tickets and $5000 cash.

However this is just another run-of-the-mill Facebook giveaway scam that exploits Facebook users into sharing a scam across the social networking website by baiting them with a prize that does not exist.

Like most giveaway scams, the scammer’s intention is to lure Facebook users into liking a page and then to visit an external webpage where the Facebook user is told to complete various surveys and rewards programs to claim their prize. However these websites simply harvest a user’s personal and contact information where they will be spammed with more unsolicited spam.

Good Luck, Qantas!

Facebook users will only realise that the gift bags allegedly on offer do not exist once they’ve already given up their personal information, making themselves the target for spammers.

As with most Facebook giveaway scams, this one can easily be dismissed simply by seeing that the Facebook page posting these spammy links is not the official Qantas Facebook page. There is no blue verification tick next to the name and the Facebook page was only created days ago and has made no other posts.

We’ve been warning of these types of scams for a long time and people continue to fall for them “just in case” they’re true. However these scams often lead to victims being targeted with excessive spam and even identity theft. Do not share these links on your own timeline as you are only putting your own friends at risk of the same scam, and remember to delete them if you do fall for this scam.
