Despite rumours to the contrary, a man named Sam Hyde has NOT been identified as the Santa Fe High School shooter.
The assertion that a suspect of a mass shooting has been identified as one Sam Hyde has become a sick Internet meme that originated on website 4Chan a number of years back and has persisted for a number of mass shootings.
Sam Hyde is an online comedian who has nothing to do with any of the mass shootings he has been incorrectly attributed to. The meme includes posting both his name and photo online asserting that he has either been arrested or is wanted in connection to a mass shooting. He has previously been falsely accused of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, the Las Vegas massacre and the Sutherland Springs shooting.
The Santa Fee shooting is no different as a number of Twitter accounts had begun posting his photo and name only minutes after news of the shooting broke.

It is unlikely that online trolls will stop using his photo or name in the aftermath of such shootings.
Please do not share any posts or information that contain unverified information about the identity of the shooter, especially if they identify the shooter as Sam Hyde.
Other social media posts assert the shooters name is Dimitrios Pagourtzis, though this has yet been officially verified by authorities as we write this.
