Social media users fooled by a photo of Ben Stiller…

A photograph depicting the cast of Hollywood comedy “Tropic Thunder” has managed to fool many social media users into thinking it was a photograph showing genuine Vietnam soldiers.

The photo, which included actors Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr and Jack Black, has been circulated on both Twitter and Facebook with the caption –

Sadly less than 2% of you will like and share this picture of brave Vietnam soldiers. So lets see how many likes and shares they can get.

Likely started as a joke by many Facebook pages and users, it seems many have taken the image at face value and failed to recognise any of the cast members. One reader wrote –

So proud of our Vets who fought, and many died, for us in Vietnam. One of the worst wars for the USA!!

Many instances of the photo – which have “photoshopped” fellow actor Steve Coogan out – have managed to accumulate thousands of shares.

And many have taken to parodying the joke, taking it to more extreme measures…
