Was texas church shooter an Antifa member who vowed to start civil war? Fake News

A fake news website has claimed that the Texas Church shooter was an Antifa member who had vowed to start a civil war.

The website YourNewsWire.com published an article claiming the shooter – Devin Patrick Kelley – was an Antifa member. The article makes a number of other claims, including –

– Eyewitnesses claimed there were two shooters
– According to a graphic in the article, Kelley draped an Antifa flag onto the church pulpit
– The same graphic also claimed Kelley was shooting people who couldn’t quote specific sections of the Bible

The article on YourNewsWire.com reads in part –

Texas Church Shooter Was Antifa Member Who Vowed To Start Civil War
The gunman who opened fire inside a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, has been identified as Devin Kelley, an Antifa member who vowed to start a civil war by “targeting white conservative churches” and causing anarchy in the United States.
Wilson County Commissioner Albert Gamez Jr said that at least 27 people have been killed in the shooting, according to reports by the CNN and the BBC, with the confirmed death toll expected to climb in the coming hours.
Witnesses report they saw Devin Kelley walk into the Baptist Church in the small town 30 miles from San Antonio at 11:30am local time Sunday, according to KSAT-12.

Despite the headline and the content, YourNewsWire.com does not offer any sources or evidence to back up the bold claims made in the article. While at the time of writing we know little about the shooter and his motivations, authorities have not stated that he is related to the Antifa movement, and no eyewitnesses have collaborated the claims that Kelley had an Antifa flag or that there was more than one gunman.

While investigations into Kelley and his motivations are on-going, speculation or unfounded news help no one and just further the spread of misinformation. YourNewsWire.com is a notoriously unreliable website that only last week has published a variety of nonsense claims including a story that falsely claimed Morgan Freeman said Hillary Clinton should be jailed, a fake story that Kevin Spacy had boasted about drugging Justin Bieber and another fake story that Katy Perry said human meat was the finest meat in the world.

As such, we don’t recommend using this website to get your news. It should also be noted that an array of fake Facebook profiles have sprung up on the Internet claiming to be the Facebook profile of Devin Kelley. These fake profiles use stock images of the Antifa flag to create the illusion that Kelley was an Antifa member.
