Upgrade your iPhone software to 9.2.1- quick!
In 2013, security company Skycure discovered a bug in the iPhone iOS software that would allow malicious Wi-Fi networks setup by cyber-criminals to hijack control of your phone should you connect.
The flaw has been under wraps since 2013 as Apple worked on a way to fix it, and it has taken them 18 months, so it doesn’t look like it was an easy fix. It was important for both Apple and Skycure to not go public with the vulnerability until a fix was in place, for fear that releasing information on the exploit would allow cyber-criminals to take advantage of it.
Well, now the patch is out, and the exploit has been made public, so it’s imperative that you upgrade your iPhones software to version 9.2.1. It may not sound important to update from 9.2 to 9.2.1, but there’s a good chance that hackers out there will be seeing who’s slow on the updating scene by laying down a number of traps that capitalise on this vulnerability.

The exploit allowed hackers to steal information from your phone once you connected to their fake Wi-Fi network which would allow them to pretend to be you on any number of websites, which could result in all sort of damage, including identity theft.
So head to that settings page and make sure you have the latest software update, which was made available Wednesday.
