Watch out for “free cases of Smirnoff” scam on Facebook
Claims that Smirnoff is giving away free cases of vodka to celebrate their 150th anniversary are spreading across Facebook.
The links, like the one below, claim that by clicking it, you can grab your free case of vodka, of which there are 180 cases remaining.

Upon clicking the link, the visitor is taken to a webpage that requests they share the page on their Facebook account a well as post the link to a handful of Facebook groups of which they are members. This helps the link spread across Facebook.
After performing these actions, the visitor is then instructed to enter a series of surveys and competitions to continue. These surveys request the personal information from the visitor and is used to send them further spam, including through email and often through their phone or SMS.

And after all this, there are no free cases of Smirnoff Vodka on offer. It’s all a ruse to lure the visitor into parting with their personal information which gets sent straight into the hands of shady marketing companies.
It’s a classic Facebook giveaway scam that leads to a survey scheme. There are tons on the Internet, often targeting gadgets like the iPhone, iPad or the latest must have electronic. They also often use airline and supermarket brands as bait as well.
We’ve covered dozens of similar schemes here before, but this is the first we’ve seen the Smirnoff brand used in such scams. With that said, this scam looks identical to its many predecessors. And that is a link on Facebook leading to a webpage urging you to share the same webpage on Facebook and then directing the visitor to a survey. These are scams and our readers are strongly advised to avoid interacting with them.
