Watch out for “Wh0 Viewed Y0ur Pr0file 2017” links – they’re scams

More links are spreading on Facebook that claim you can see who viewed your profile. The links claim you can get “full details” of who viewed your Facebook profile in 2017.

An example of these links can be seen below –

When clicking the link, users are taken to a Facebook app installation page which requests permission to install on the users account. If the user accepts, the app will try and post the same spammy links from that user’s Facebook account.

Once the app has installed itself, it can do all sorts of potentially nefarious things in the background. It can collect a user’s personal information, or try and lure the user off of Facebook and on to websites that may try and trick the user into installing malware onto their computer.

At the time of writing, Facebook have begun blocking many of the links.

As we have stated many times before, you cannot see who have viewed/checked/stalked your Facebook profile. This is not a feature that Facebook provide. And if any link you see on your newsfeed is telling you otherwise, you are most likely being scammed.

We discuss these types of scams in more detail in our previous blog post here.

Thanks for reading, we hope this article helped, but before you leave us for greener pastures, please help us out.

We're hoping to be totally ad-free by 2025 - after all, no one likes online adverts, and all they do is get in the way and slow everything down. But of course we still have fees and costs to pay, so please, please consider becoming a Facebook supporter! It costs only 0.99p (~$1.30) a month (you can stop at any time) and ensures we can still keep posting Cybersecurity themed content to help keep our communities safe and scam-free.
