Will Zuckerberg remove Hillary Clinton from Facebook for 50k likes? It’s a hoax.

A post on social networking site Facebook is spreading virally that claims to show a screenshot of Mark Zuckerberg agreeing to delete presidential candidate Hillary Clinton from Facebook if that screenshot can accumulate over 50k likes, 40k comments and 20k shares.

A screenshot, posted by the Mad American Network, can be seen below.

Hey Mark, I really doubt you will take this seriously but if I post this as a screen shot, how many likes, comments and shares do I need for you to delete Hillary Clinton from facebook forever?
Thanks –
Sincerely – dave

Ok dave, if you can get 50k likes, 40k comments and 20k shares, we will delete Hillary from facebook forever. But I seriously doubt you can get that many likes… Good luck!

Yes, it’s fake. Mark Zuckerberg made no such agreement, and this is actually just the latest type of “like-farming” (getting likes and shares based on deception) to hit Facebook. We describe this type of like-farming in this post here.

If there was any doubt, only a few weeks prior to the date of this article, a nearly identical version spread across Facebook, only this time it was Hillary’s opponent Donald Trump who was apparently getting deleted from Facebook if the post could accumulate a certain number of likes. Another version claimed that Zuckerberg would help stop the controversial Yulin dog meat festival if a post could get over a certain number of likes.

This is just an attempt by certain pages and profiles to gain followers by getting their posts to go viral across Facebook. It’s like-farming, and pages that engage in this type of spam are also often connected to spam and more serious scams, so we recommend that our readers avoid engaging in these deceptive posts.

Ultimately though, no, Zuckerberg isn’t removing Clinton from Facebook. The notion is absurd, and perhaps many Facebook users could benefit from being a little more sceptical and responsible with the information they choose to share from their accounts as opposed to posting this sort of nonsense.

Remember to keep on top of this type of nonsense by liking our Facebook page here. Stay safe out there!
