Win a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS on Facebook? No chance
Another fake giveaway scam on Facebook is spreading virally that claims Facebook members can win a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS by liking, sharing and commenting on a Facebook post.
The scam has surfaced at the same time as many other similar scams, one targeted the Disney World brand which we reported on yesterday.
The spammy Facebook post – as seen below – has been posted by a Facebook like-farming Page. Like-farming pages are pages set up purely to attract as many followers as possible through manipulative and dishonest methods.
Would you like to join this amazing giveaway for a chance to own a brand new Camaro ? Simply follow the steps below to enter the competition :
1. Share & Like this photo
2. Comment below your desired color
The winners will be messaged via inbox message
Good Luck
Of course there are no 2015 Chevrolet Camaro SS cars on offer here, but Facebook users will not know this, and are likely to jump through the various hoops laid forth by the people starting these scam offers.
These types of scams can be particularly dangerous. In the past we have seen these spam posts edited to include dangerous or malicious web links that lead users to websites outside of Facebook. Such websites can lure visitors into downloading malware or complete questionnaires and surveys which can be used to spam victims or even commit identity theft.
And those who choose to follow the Facebook page that posted the spam post – in this case a recently created community page named after the same car – may find themselves the target for future types of scams.
Many brands do initiate offers through their social networking channels, but these are done through their official pages. The Camaro official page, for example, (screenshot below) can easily be identified by the number of followers it has accrued (4.3 million) and the blue verification tick that illustrates Facebook have confirmed it as the official page.
Please remember that falling for these scams puts your friends at risk too, because they require you share and comment on the post which can direct the same scam toward them. Be responsible – don’t participate “just in case” – these scams can be dangerous and result in real loss.
