Win a RV for sharing a Facebook post? It’s a scam

A spammy Facebook post is going viral that claims users of the social networking website can win an RV just for liking and sharing the post.

The post, below, implore readers to share the post, like the Facebook page Mobile Homes and comment Thanks on the post to stand a chance of winning a “crazy RV”.

Of course this is yet another example of a typical like-farming webpage using a fake giveaway as bait to lure unsuspecting Facebook users into liking a Facebook page. All the typical red flags are present including the page itself which has only made a handful of very similar “giveaway” posts and the assertion that you must share the link on your timeline, which is against Facebook’s terms of service regarding legitimate promotions.

The aim of these posts is to both lure people into liking the page and to eventually lure them to spammy marketing webpages. It is likely the post will be edited to including a link to such a site where visitors are told to hand over their personal contact information, making them targets for future spam.

As usual the advice is the same here – don’t share links on your timeline to win things, since they’re scams. Perform due diligence on Facebook pages that make these sorts of posts to determine if they represent legitimate businesses or just trying to get you to like their page.

Facebook users who follow the page will be targeted with more spam and even more serious scams like malware attacks or identity scams.
