Need a good reason why you should not spread unverified information online? We have 12 possible reasons in our article here, but a 22 year old waitress from Connecticut will probably agree with one specific reason over any of the others this week.
Karena Bennett found herself the victim of a cruel hoax this week when the fake news industry we so often find ourselves reporting about decided to turn their attention towards her.
Or to be more specific, they turned their attention to a photo of her and her husband along with their newborn child, which they found in an online newspaper some time ago when Karena became the first person to give birth in Milford, Conn. in 2015.
Popular fake news website WorldNewsDailyReport.com (a site that we’ve had plenty of dealings with over the last few years) lifted the photo and published it on their own website attached to an article about a mother who had “14 kids with 14 different fathers”. The fake story did not paint Karena in a good light, though it referred to her as “Anita Sullivan”.
As with many nonsensical stories that WorldNewsDailyReport.com publishes, the story went viral, attracting plenty of attention and a lot of nasty comments from Facebook users who have been both commenting on and sharing the photo on social media.
Lazy, overweight and who “deserved to be shot” are only a small selection of the vile comments that Karena has had to read. All of them aimed towards her photo, attached to a story with no element of truth to it.

WorldNewsDailyReport.com has been publishing fake stories for years, and many have proven to be very controversial, though this is the first time that we’re aware of that someone in the photos they steal from the Internet has come across their own image on the popular fake news website.
It is another reminder that we really need to be careful about what information we share online and on social media, and that we only get our news from reputable news outlets. Sharing stories from these fake news websites can cause real anguish and suffering from innocent people, like in the case of Karena Bennett.
