Women wearing “make America white again” t-shirts at rally?

A photo (above) apparently showing five women at a Trump rally, each with a single word of the following sentence ‘MAKE AMERICA WHITE AGAIN #TRUMP’ emblazoned on their white t-shirts is doing the rounds on social media.

The photo is spreading with many captions attributed to it, but one of the more popular seems to be “Yes. This is happening. In 2016…” The photo is circulating prolifically on both Facebook and Twitter.

While it is true that certain instances related to racial discrimination have occurred during Trump rallies (such as the case of Rose Hamid and a more recent case where a black protester man was punched in the face) in the case of this particular photo, it has actually been digitally manipulated. It’s a HOAX.

Someone took the original photo, where the t-shirts read ‘make America great again’ – one of Trump’s campaign slogans – and photoshopped the word ‘great’ with ‘white’. The manipulation appears rather convincing, even having some of our own staff fooled. Up until the point we managed to track down the original photo, that is. You can see the original photo below.

Given that the photo has been digitally manipulated in a manner to suggest those in the photo support racist views, we certainly do not recommend circulating this photo.
