Internet Hoaxes

Yes, that’s a “Trump Will Protect Us From Canada” sign… BUT…

Images of a person holding a sign stating “Trump Will Protect Us From Canada” are spreading online, inducing plenty of mockery from many spectators believing it to be a rather misinformed Trump supporter.

The sign appeared on television during a CBC news report as well as the title image on a popular article on the Slate.com website.

The sign is real, however it clearly isn’t being held by a Trump supporter. In fact it was being held by someone protesting a Trump rally in Lynden Washington on May 7th 2016. (You can see many anti-Trump banners being held in the same vicinity as the sign in question, including one saying “Love Trumps Hate”.)

Since the banner is being held by someone actually protesting Trump, it is clear that the sign is to be taken as a joke, mocking Trump’s controversial comments about building a wall between the United States and Mexico, thus the sign is to be taken somewhat tongue-in-cheek.
