Only last week we wrote about the latest celebrity nude hacker scandal to circulate the Internet, this time with Carly Rae Jepson as the focus. Our advice – stop posing for nude photographs – was aimed at budding female stars.
Now our advice is aimed squarely at the hackers who steal the photos.
Don’t do it.
Why? Because the chap responsible for leaking nude photos of Scarlett Johansson onto the Internet has been given a whopping 10 year sentence!
Christopher Chaney – who stole nude photographs of several celebrities, including alleged photos of actress Mila Kunis as well as text messages and emails – was only expected to receive a sentence only half of which he ended up with leaving many to speculate if he has been made an example of. A cyber scapegoat.
Chaney used the method of using the “secret question” facility that many online accounts have in case their users forget their passwords. Using information that he was able to find, publically or otherwise, Chaney was able to correctly answer the secret questions and obtain control over an account.
And that provides us with a chance of giving everyone a piece of advice regardless of your celebrity status – remember that the information you share publically can be used against you – such as answering your secret questions.
Always be wary of the information you share and who you share it with. Something that is especially true when using social media sites like Facebook.
